Keddem's Tikkun Olam activities "heal the world" in ways that are best suited to our small, Reconstructionist
congregation. First, we target as many opportunities as possible in our local community. Second, our
"participatory" nature means direct involvement -- working side-by-side. That's also why we gather and
implement ideas for social action from within our own ranks. And third, as a small congregation, we readily
partner with other Jewish organizations and the larger faith community in support of worthwhile causes
and actions. "How many Jews does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL), a program of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and the nation’s leading Jewish environmental organization, has launched the “A Light Among the Nations” campaign to reduce global warming. As part of their commitment to preserving the Environment, JRF has become a sponsor of COEJL’s campaign. We in the Keddem community can make a significant contribution to COEJL’s campaign by replacing some of the traditional incandescent bulbs in our homes with cost-saving, energy-efficient Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs (CFLs). If you don’t know which retailers near you sell CFLs, you can visit PG&E’s database of vendors, searchable by city.
