BLL this season gets underway with an excellent kick-off speaker and topic. Join us on Sunday, October 28 for Professor Martin Hellman's provocative, thought-provoking discussion of the current situation in nuclear weapons proliferation, "Nuclear Weapons in 'Rogue States': What Can Be Done?"
Conventional wisdom says that not much, other than military strikes, can rein in nuclear weapons programs in Iran and North Korea—and that doing nothing is intolerable. This talk shows that we have many more options than we realize, but are not making use of them.
Martin Hellman is a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and has been involved with the nuclear proliferation question for several years. Among his accomplishments in electrical engineering and computer science is the invention, with Whitfield Diffie and Ralph Merkle, of public key encryption and secure key exchange over an insecure channel, the basis of trillions of dollars each year in commerce and financial exchange over the Internet.
Join us on Sunday, October 28, at Kehillah Jewish High School— 10am for bagels and schmoozing, 10:30-noon for the lecture and discussion.
