Tikkun Olam in the Jewish Community
The Jewish community has a longstanding social justice tradition. Below are some of the campaigns the Jewish community is actively engaged in. In addition, JRF's Tikkun Olam site is an excellent resource for action items, JRF resolutions, and educational material.

Darfur Needs Our Help
Gettysburg. Auschwitz. Selma. Pivotal moments when the world shifted upon a moral axis, and our common destiny turned either toward good or evil.

Darfur is such a moment. The genocide occurring in Darfur is the destruction of hope for an entire people. It is a denial of the truth that every group of people has the right to existence.

Organizations such as the American Jewish World Service urge simple, straightforward actions to save the people of Sudan. First, the relief effort needs funds, as daily food rations fall below the survival level. Second, the US must appoint a special envoy for Sudan. For more information, visit the JRF's Sudan/Darfur call to action or the Save Darfur Coalition.

Environment
COEJL and the JCPA have launched a nationwide campaign to address the climate change crisis. The campaign is engaging the Jewish community in education, advocacy, and concrete action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hurricane Katrina/Disaster Relief
In September of 2005, JFSJ launched the Hurricane Katrina Recovery and Redevelopment Project to focus the resources and attention of the Jewish community on those with little income or influence who were disproportionately affected by the disaster.

Literacy
Fifty-five percent of fourth graders in California read below grade level. It’s a shocking statistic, but it’s a reality for thousands of children. The Jewish Coalition for Literacy is dedicated to reversing this statistic, one child at a time. JCL is a project of JCRC and the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, and Marin and Sonoma Counties.
