Tikkun Olam at Keddem
At Keddem, everyone helps "heal the world," either through congregational Tikkun Olam projects, or as individuals and families. Keddem members share a natural concern for others and for our planet. As a small congregation, we listen carefully to the voices of our own participants and try to focus Tikkun Olam efforts accordingly. Keddem strives to balance local needs with international and global concerns. By working with the Bay Area and regional Jewish communities, we amplify the effectiveness of our Tikkun Olam efforts. Mazon
Keddem is a proud partner of Mazon (“food” in Hebrew). Through Mazon, the Jewish community helps prevent and alleviate hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds, domestically and globally. MAZON provides for those who are hungry today, while addressing the systemic causes of hunger and poverty. Fees for many Keddem events include a donation to Mazon.

Hotel de Zink
Hotel de Zink, an ongoing program run by the Urban Ministry of Palo Alto, helps screened, unhoused applicants get back on their feet financially. In December, when Hotel de Zink’s rotating shelter comes to the Friends Meeting House in Palo Alto, Keddem gets involved – with members preparing meals. To help, contact Doug Smith at (650) 780-9223.

Keddem's Annual Food Drive
Kol Nidre services mark Keddem’s annual food drive when every member of our community can help feed the area’s often invisible people in need. By collecting canned, dried and other nonperishable food items, Keddem members address the hunger and poverty at our doorstep. Keddem's food distribution partner, the Ecumenical Hunger Program, serves a growing population of needy families on the Peninsula. The autumn timing of our donations makes Keddem's efforts particularly important in this area.
